Welcome to the Sprachland of RIS Swiss Section – Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok
We are the German-speaking school in Bangkok with a corresponding curriculum. Nevertheless, we also accept students who do not yet have any knowledge of German. To optimize the linguistic entry, a language-only class for students in primary 1-3 will be introduced at RIS Swiss Section from August 2023. This language class will be called “Sprachland”.
Goal of the language-only class Sprachland
In this mixed-age class, children who do not yet have a beginner’s level in German (A1) are taught. With this tested and proved model, we want to develop the students’ knowledge of German to such an extent that they can then follow the lessons well in the regular class.

Organization of the language-only class Sprachland
Students in grades 1-3 with no knowledge of German enter “Sprachland” in August. From August to January, the students in this class are taught with a focus on the German language. They attend the subjects music, movement and sports, foreign languages, and art in the regular class from the beginning.
A timetable for the language-only class “Sprachland” might look like this:
| Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
Morning | Sprachland | Sprachland | Sprachland | Sprachland | Sprachland |
| Regular class | Regular class | Regular class | Regular class | Regular class |
Afternoon | Sprachland | Sprachland | Sprachland | Sprachland | Sprachland |
The class is taught by a trained German as a foreign language teacher and a special needs teacher. Therefore, each student is supported according to his or her needs.
Transfer from the language-only class “Sprachland“ to the regular class
The students’ progress is evaluated on an ongoing basis to prepare them specifically for the A1 language exam in January. After passing this exam, the students can transfer to the regular class.
Individual support in the regular class continues to be provided by the “Sprachland” teachers. In the second half of the school year, the students receive support in both language and subject areas.
Communication
During this time, the “Sprachland” teachers and the homeroom teachers work very closely together and exchange information about the students’ learning progress. Parents also receive regular updates on their child’s learning status.
We are looking forward to opening our first language-only class “Sprachland” at our school in the summer of 2023.
