Radiant students, proud parents, prominent guest speakers: In a small but high-calibre commencement ceremony, members of this year’s graduating classes at RIS Swiss Section – Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok received their Matura and secondary school diplomas.
With pandemic campus safety protocols in place, the restricted event celebrated the success and dedication of seven graduates in all 14 disciplines of the bilingual Swiss Matura program, one of the most challenging high school diplomas in the world. Furthermore, all nine students of grade 10 proudly received their Sek1 diplomas and entrance qualification for the upper Gymnasium (Senior High School).
The certificates were presented by H. E. Mr. Georg Schmidt, German Ambassador in Thailand, and Mrs. Silvia Spahn, Consul of the Embassy of Switzerland in Thailand. Representing the Austrian Embassy was Mrs. Stephanie Jakobitsch, Head of the Embassy Administration. Together with principal Christian Vogel, they congratulated the graduates on their success and wished them all the best for their future life.
Afterwards, the guests enjoyed the traditional Apéro in the school’s music room with delicious finger food and wine donated by the Swiss Embassy.
On the following day, the celebrations continued with the Matura Ball themed “Full House” in the Swissôtel Ratchada. It was a welcome opportunity for the whole school community to not only celebrate the graduates but also enjoy some much-missed social interaction after a school year that had been dominated by social distancing. An excellent buffet, plenty of dancing and an entertaining program including a raffle with great prizes organized by the students ensured that fun and excitement on this fantastic evening was had by all.
