In these days of the advent season, our primary school teacher Martina Truttmann reads three different Christmas stories to the students from Kindergarten to Grade 1 using the very popular storytelling method Kamishibai. Today she started with the first story: “Nikolaus und der dumme Nuck”.
Kamishibei, literally meaning “paper drama”, is a wooden briefcase that opens its doors and creates a stage in which storyboard cards are inserted. It is an entertaining and captivating storytelling tool that has been popular in Japanese Kindergartens for a long time. Educators are happy about the integrated approach to learning and revising as well as drama structure and visual art and audiences enjoy it for the sheer entertainment value.
